Karl Lagerfeld has provoked fury by labelling pop superstar Adele ‘fat’.
In an interview, the German-born fashion guru added that the Royal Family were ‘totally unnecessary, but pleasant’. The 78-year-old also called Russian men ‘ugly’ and said Greeks and Italians have ‘disgusting habits.’
Lagerfeld – who is notorious for his controversial outbursts – made the remarks as a guest editor of Paris’s free newspaper Metro.
Asked for his views on women pop stars, he said: ‘The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.’
Adele Adkins, 23, from South London, has become a huge star in recent years with her two albums 19 and 21 selling more than 23.5 million copies to date.
Last year she had to have surgery for a throat illness but is set to return to the stage for the first time since the op at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The ‘fat’ comment by Lagerfeld, creative director of Chanel, has been heavily criticised. Curves and Chaos, an LA-based blog for full figured women, wrote: ‘Are you freaking kidding me? We’re done with him and Chanel as long as he’s involved with them.’
American PR guru Kelly Cutrone added: ‘If you love Adele then boycott Chanel .’
Adele’s spokesman declined to comment on Lagerfeld’s remarks. The star insists she is not obsessed with her fuller figure or trying to lose weight. She said last year: ‘I enjoy being me.’ - Daily Mail

WOW as a society we are hyper-sensitive and jump on anything we can make bigger. We are like fast food joints....UP SIZING...to make things look sensational. In my eyes, and I hope in her eyes, she is perfect the way she is. Now Karl (who doesn't hold back) thinks with his tongue! He is a fashion guru and he is used to seeing 90lbs 6ft women, compared to that, most of us are a little too fat. SO WHAT! I choose not to use his opinion as my standard. Now media is asking for a boycott on Chanel? NOT ME! I still love them both and they have a right to their opinions. If Adele make some minor slip of the tongue I am not going to prosecute her either. Forgive the minor things, life is too short to get all worked up with minor details. Forgiveness is the key to happiness. GET HAPPY!

The thing is - Unlike many other young pop stars, Adele is so good that she doesn't need to use sex to sell records. Good for her.

People should ignore negative people and negative comments. Why worry about what others say and think. Just be happy with yourself and the ones who love you! That is the problem in this world today, people worry too much about what others think. Get over it and move on, life is too precious to worry about small things and people!

What he has to say about Adele is wrong and hurtful. Who the hell does he think he is. Little gremlin

Whilst no an Adele fan, i find her outlook and naturalness refreshing. She is plump, but who cares. Karl Lagerfeld on the other hand looks like a nasty smarmy little man who is on the wrong side of old age.
