FIKILE Mbalula has risen to a new level of cool, some may say.

The sport and recreation minister is already known for rubbing shoulders with celebrities such as US singer Brandy, but has now set his own bar higher after hooking up with rap mogul P Diddy.

Mbalula attended the NBA All Star Weekend – an event that sees the likes of musicians Rihanna, Jay-Z and Beyoncé on the guest list.

The minister spent time with Floyd “Money” Mayweather and P Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, at the function, of which a splash of pictures was uploaded onto his Instagram account.

He captioned one of his photos: “Bye-bye New York, it was great super rawkus. See u soon sun Jo’burg is calling #hastalavista (sic)”.

But many are questioning whether the minister was there on personal or professional business.

In one photo from last weekend, Mbalula said: “Earlier today, we were invited to a luncheon by NBA Africa to discuss partnerships in the development and socio-economic upliftment of young people through sport, basketball in particular.”

One of his Instagram followers was worried about the message Mbalula was sending out with his lifestyle. “(I) just feel he’s setting the wrong example to his massive following,” chizle12 said.

These sentiments were echoed by @TSHEPO_SED on Twitter, who said: “Where does Min.Fikile Mbalula get the time to do his job?”
