Johannesburg - R&B singer Brandy may not be the headline act she was at the beginning of her career, but she would be forgiven for expecting a sizeable crowd to turn up for her performances. Sadly for her, this was not the case when she took to the stage as part of the Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day celebrations at the weekend.
Instead of belting out her hits to a 90 000-strong crowd at the FNB stadium, the singer was shocked to find that just forty people had stayed on to catch her in action. The American’s performance followed a festival of football, rugby and live music.
Clearly irritated, Brandy soldiered on through two songs before leaving the stage in a huff.
Poor marketing of her appearance has been blamed for the audience no-show.
Local singer Kabomo described the incident in a series of tweets in which he sympathised with the star.
“I have no words for what I just witnessed...
“Brandy performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on. She sulked after two songs and walked off...
“It was late. People didn't know there was a concert after the games. No one knew Brandy was around. Maybe a 40 people audience...(sic)
