If you’re going to roast a Sushi King, you’d better turn up the heat.

That’s exactly what Comedy Central have done by appointing British stand-up comedian Jimmy Carr as the official “roastmaster”.

Carr’s brand of dark humour should keep Kunene, and the panel of roasters, on their toes. It may even help King Kenny to forget about Loyiso Gola. Kunene was adamant that he didn’t want the lanky comedian anywhere near the panel.

Carr’s job will be to keep the evening flowing and the invited guests in check as comics, critics and media personalities line-up to take potshots at Kunene and each other.

Last year, outspoken Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr became the first South African to be roasted.

This year was supposed to be the turn of Leon Schuster, but the prankster pulled out of the event at the last minute citing health issues.

The Comedy Central Roast of Kenny Kunene takes place at the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City on April 3.

Tickets for the event go on sale on February 21, and the show will be broadcast on Comedy Central on April 28. - Tonight Reporter
