CONTROVERSIAL singer Kelly Khumalo was expected to stand trial at the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, but chances of her arriving at the court were slim.

The vocalist gave birth to her second child, a baby girl named Thingo, on Monday.

On Tuesday, Khumalo told The Star in a WhatsApp message that she would have an interview with the paper “maybe after three months”.

The new mother and her younger sister and co-accused, Zandi Khumalo, face charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Kelly faces additional charges of reckless or negligent driving and malicious injury to property.

Last October, the pair handed themselves over to the police.

The incident allegedly occurred in August. They were each granted bail of R500.

At the time, police said Khumalo stopped her car and assaulted Mandisa Mkhize without provocation.

Mkhize is the wife of Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa. Neither Meyiwa nor his wife were present during previous court proceedings. - The Star
