South African music duo Locnville are furious after allegedly being assaulted by police at a filling station in Cape Town, a report says.
According to Eyewitness News, Andrew Chaplin claims he and his twin brother Brian were walking in Claremont with a friend in the early hours of Thursday morning when they were insulted by another group of people who did not like their music.
“Someone said something really inappropriate to us as people but for some reason the police followed us and stopped us in the middle of the road and attacked us. I cannot stand for that,” said Chaplin.
Chaplin claimed police officers pepper-sprayed his twin and broke his friend's nose. The musician reportedly admitted they had been drinking.
He said officials at the Claremont Police Station would not let him lay a formal complaint.
“We called the police station and tried to lay a formal complaint but they kept hanging up on us numerous times,” he told Eyewitness News.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut said they could not confirm the incident because they had not received a formal complaint.
“Once we have received such a complaint we will investigate and look into the circumstances of the matter,” said Traut. - IOL

@DD hope you and your kid dont find yourself in a situation where the police are needed.

Where in the report diid it say that they were drunk. The one bother admitted that they had been drinking. It is pure assumption that they were drunk. Is the real issue here that a nose was broken and they police were abusive. Imagine you or someone that you know being on the receiving end. The police are supposed to serve and protect. Why are they targeting innocents rather than taking on the real crime!!!

I do not blame the police for hanging up. Imagine receiving a phone call in the early hours of the morning from a drunk person spinning all kind of yarns. They should have sobered up, thought of a plausible story and visit the police. As it stands, it looks like a publicity story to demoralize our overworked police who try to keep law and order under trying conditions. How were they able to remember the events of that morning , never mind dialling a number, maybe they went through a wrong number, hence the hanging up. Somewhere out there , there is someone who is furious coz a loony kept on calling about barking at the moon in his pocket.

I think it all depends on ones attitude. I had an incident which I reported to Claremont SAPS on Tuesday morning. It was suggested that it would be best for me to come to the charge office, and fill out the necessary paper work, which I did. The constable who assisted me was efficient and I was assisted within a few minutes of walking into their charge office. I would like to add they were extremely busy as well, but everyone was dealt with efficiently and in a polite manner.

@DD, I guess if she said Mummy here are the monkeys referring to a different race group you would have died of laughter and excitement. You should be ashamed of yourself for instilling such labels into a young innocent mind of 4 years.

Moron@9.44, where does it say they went to the police station. They were drunk and tried to lay a formal complaint 'numerous times' by phone.

Duh?????????????

My 4 year old daughter pointed out the back window the other day and said: "Mummy, look there's the bad guys...". She was pointing at the police - need I say more - from the mouths of babes.

I do hope you guys are not going to leave it like this. Please take the matter further as this is not on. I had great respect for the SAPS as i have family in the SAPS but i do not have the respect any longer since the police officers think they are above God. I do not trust them nor do i believe in them. Bring back the old cops that had respect for humanbeings and always had a nice word to say to people and even helped the older people on the road. It is sad for me to live in a country like this. Even the police reservists does not get acknowledged but yet they do the same work and a perminant member without pay. Reservists does not even get recruited into the SAPS when there are vacancies they would rather they the bad off the streets to become cops.

@Blesbok 9:16 If you had actually read the article properly you would have seen that they said they tried to lay a formal complaint at the police station and they would not allow them to do so then they called to lay a complaint and they kept on hanging up on them. Our police are trained to be violent and attack innocent citizens they think they are the law and they think that we do not know the our rights.

I for one say go for it guys its long overdue the police pay for their actions. Eversince Cele gave them the mandate to shoot to kill they are hurting innocent people. i have no respect for SAPS anymore because there is no difference between them and the criminals.
