Johannesburg - Sultry siren Nicole Scherzinger is set to perform live at the inaugural ANN7 South African of the Year awards. The awards night, punted as a celebration of ordinary South Africans will be held on September 6.
Scherzinger will be sharing the stage with a host of top South African musical talent on the night, including Lira, Mafikizolo, Zahara, MiCASA and Junior Mambazo.
As impressive as the list of local musicians may be, it’s the presence of the former Pussycat Doll that is sure to garner the most interest. Scherzinger’s relationship with Formula One ace Lewis Hamilton, and her sexy dress sense, has made her a favourite with the paparazzi.
In 2010, she showcased her dancing skills on television, winning the 10th season of Dancing With The Stars. She followed this with a role as a judge on The X Factor UK. In 2012, she branched out into acting with a role in Men in Black 3.
But it’s the music that has made Scherzinger a household name. Off the back of hits like Don’t Cha, Buttons, I Hate This Part and Jai Ho, she has sold 50 million as the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls - one of the best-selling girl groups of all time - and a further 16 million records as a solo artist. This month, she released her latest album, titled On The Rocks.
Of the album, she gave this insight: “It’s about the woman I am, the woman I’m not and the woman I want to be. Finally, now, as a woman of my age, I’m comfortable with who I am.
“I’ve battled a lot of issues and demons, as we all do growing up. But I finally feel confident in my own skin and so I’m open enough to talk about love, insecurities, relationships, my sensual side. I’ve found my own musical soundtrack to my soul.” - Tonight Reporter
