South Africa's porn reality show looks set to go ahead despite recent mishaps.
Controversial reality show Porn Star has postponed its second round of auditions after the producer of the show suffered a severe heart attack.
The auditions, to have been held at exotic strip club Lollipop Lounge in Randburg this weekend, have been put on hold until producer Donovan van Wyngaard recovers.
Contestants were meant to show off their sexual skills in front of a judging panel at the strip club as part of the next round of auditions in Joburg.
The show has come under severe criticism over the past few months, with church organisations and individuals expressing their “disgust” at the new reality show.
“Donovan suffered a heart attack brought on by the severe stress he has been under with regards the controversy surrounding the competition,” said Dr Devine, spokeswoman and judge for Porn Star.
“He has not only been challenged by organisations, but threatened with his life as well,” she added.
The stress has not deflected Van Wyngaard from continuing with the show.
“He feels very strongly about constitutional rights and freedom of speech. All six of the judges completely concur with his philosophies.
“We believe that choice is our God-given right and no other human being has the right to judge our choices or to try through dogma, beliefs and aggression to prevent people from living their choices.”
The reality show is in search of South Africa’s next male and female porn stars.
Many people thought the porn industry should be seen as a career, like other industries, Devine said.
“DJ Fresh promoted freedom of choice on his show on March 30 and the callers who came through I found to be refreshingly open-minded, with a good sense of humour.
“It’s the typical overzealous church organisations who wrongly feel it is their duty to decide what is good and not good for society.
“They are completely removing the freedom of choice aspect which is everyone’s God-given right.”
Devine and the other judges on the show – Lollipop Lounge owner Gigi; Arthur Calamaras (Adultworld Group, Sexpo); Joey Hensen (male porn star); Elzabe Kruger (female porn star); and Carike van Wyngaard (co-producer of Porn Star) – said they all looked forward to the next round of auditions and judging contestants on sexual performance.
“Previously we judged confidence, character and looks, but now we are judging performance,” Devine said.
“Size does count. Contestants will be judged on premature ejaculation, staying power, the ability to continue under stressful conditions, technique, special skills and, as in all working arenas, initiative and leadership skills,” she added.
While the reality show has yet to hold auditions in Cape Town and Durban, it had received more than 1 000 applications in Gauteng.
“We have had a lot of fun to say the least and are even more excited that the auditions are now being held at Lollipop Lounge,” Devine said.
“It is great that the competition is associated with this venue and Gigi, who is a good example of an incredible woman who is in the sex industry and a formidable force to be reckoned with in the business arena,” Devine added.
She said the judges and producer were taken by surprise by the number of South Africans interested in Porn Star.
“Judging by the number of excited applicants entering Porn Star, the competition is definitely going to provide people with a fabulous opportunity and some great exposure, which is now heightened by the recent development with Sexpo,” she said.
The sex convention has joined forces with Porn Star, which will be showing off its winners at this year’s Sexpo in Durban and Johannesburg.
Two winners – male and female – will get to star in Hustler’s 2011 end-of-year film and pocket R5 000 in cash. The winners will also receive a contract ensuring one film role every six weeks for the next year.
Plans to broadcast the reality show on TV are well under way. - Saturday Star

For all the religious comments here.. porn is freedom of expression as much as it was a forced expression of religious views by your forefathers. The fact that sexism is opressed in religion causes grievous and carnal sexual exploits by your priestsclergymen. Expressions of emotion via the human body between two (or more) people is a way of gratification and expression.

South Africa is a secular state this means that the govement can’t enforce religion granting freedom to everyone to follow there own path even if it means that others find it wrong. this show has no impact on your religion what so ever if you just don’t watch it you won’t be exposed and those who may enjoy it get there crappy tv show as for children the solution is like above keep them from watching it by blocking the channel and set your computer so they can’t look it up also educate your kids that way they don’t go hunting for it

@Clive, yep, I agree. It's for this very same reason that the bible must be banned. We have to protect the children from all the sick stuff in there. You should read some of the stuff David, Lot and the supposedly wise Solomon got up to. If children were to read THAT, it would harm them for good.

To all the bible thumpers commenting here: what if you don't believe in your god ? What then ? How the hell can you tell people they're sinning when quite possibly, they don't share YOUR religious convictions ? Do you know that Eskimos sleep with each others' wives ? Google "eskimo wife swapping" Please. Lot (in your own bible) had sex with both his teenage daughters and he got them pregnant. Did god strike him down for that ? Perhaps all of you should first address the sick stuff in your own bible before commenting on things that doesn't concern you. These people aren't hurting anybody. Your bible brainwashes people to start wars.

@Rianna, the Bible also says no sex before marriage, but I do not see any self-righteous comments about that.

In my opinion anyone involved with the porn industry are definitely not "stars"in any way whatsoever, maybe a prostitute is a better deion (paid for sex?), and in answer to "Dr Devine?" chirp about freedom of expression i don't have too much of a problem with that as long as all this so called "freedom of expression" is done in absolute privacy between two consenting adults and not in any way offered or aired for public consumption. in the public domain it becomes a threat to the rights of children, who will get hold of it some way or another, and according to our constitution a child's rights as well as a persons (especially women's) right to dignity are foundational in our constitution and then as already tested in the constitutional court, it overrides the 'freedom of expression" so many try to hide behind. Pornography harms society in so many way that it should be made illegal. Society would not miss it and would be a better place for all without it!

Yes this is a very good idea for a country with one of the highest rape statistics in the world. This is disgusting, I hang my head in shame that our country is becoming just as sick as the rest of the world! I agree God might give us choices but that doesnt mean he will allows us to get away with doing things like this, justify it anyway you want to people but you will pay the price if not now, certainly when you have to explain yourself at Judgement day!

I DO NOT THINK ANY OF THE JUDGES OF PORN STAR WAS EVER PART OF AN AUDITION OF THIS NATURE.I AM SURE THAT THE COMMENTS BY THE JUDGES AFTER EACH "SCREWING" SESSION MUST BE QUITE BORING BECAUSE IT DOES NOT TAKE TALENT TO HAVE SEX,IT IS SOMETHING THAT COMES NATURALLY.INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH "THE NOISE" LEVEL WHILE HAVING SEX WITH A COMPLETE STRANGER IS NOT A CRITERIA.WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU ARE UNSUCCESFUL AT THE AUDITION IN JOZI?DO YOU JUST FLY TO DURBS OR CAPE TOWN FOR MORE SEX?

I agree with Riana. Anyhow, how many of you people even know what the word "porno" means? It stems from a Greek word "porneia", it means sexual immorality. The very name of this particular pursuit means exactly what it is, sexual immorality. There is no way that we can build a moral society with this kind of rubbish being promoted.

Yes God brings volcanos, tsunamis etc on the heathens. I mean it makes sense, kill the non believers so that they may go to hell. What a clever God. Also can all you bible bashers please just shut up for once, we do not have to hear that we are born in sin and will burn at the stake every second of the day.

If you know your Bible and are a child of God, you will know that this is a sin. And yes, Choice is a God-given right, but if you make sinfull choices you must bear the results thereof.

Where is the self esteem? And what a bunch of hypocrites to allow this show. We're fighting HIVAids in this country; I hardly think that glamorizing the sex industry does much for the 'responsible' behaviour we are meant to encourage. It's just a new low...
