POETRY fanatics are in for a treat this weekend as two poetry groups from Durban combine their talents in the Orchestra of Tongues event, being held at the BAT centre on Saturday.

The showcase features the collaborative efforts of the Slam Poetry Operation Team (Spot) and GTnZee.

The secretary of Spot, Menzi Maseko (pictured), said the two groups “decided to show a united front for the sake of poetry”.

Featured artists will include: Prudence Sngqazu Ngcobo, Ndabenhle Mhlongo, Minenhle Mthembu, Syntax, King Shaka, Hasina Phili, Zethembe Nkabinde, JahLady, Goo J Poet, Palesa Hlapisi, Kushobani Poets, Kgune “The Voice” Dlamini, Kushobani Poets, Nosipho Ntshangase, The Kushites, Smiso “Slashfire” Sokhela, Nosipho Ntshangase, The Projects and Mogotsi Lebz.

They will cover themes ranging from Youth Month to freedom of expression and how they view the world.

Lara Kwela, the head co-ordinator for GTnZee, said Orchestra of Tongues was not limited to artists from Durban. Some poets were travelling from as far as Joburg and Vryheid to perform, while most of the line-up consisted of local artists.

Saturday is set to be an afternoon of exciting and innovative poetry which will showcase the creativity and diversity of some of SA’s budding poetic talent. The showcase will start at 12.30pm and end at 5pm.
