CINEMAS across SA will go ahead with the premiere of Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, in the wake of the Colorado shooting and premiere cancellations in other countries.
Ster-Kinekor and Nu-Metro have confirmed that they will be going ahead with the release of the movie on Friday.
“We are fully aware of what is happening in other countries. But it won’t stop us.
“These things don’t happen here and we will proceed with the premiere as planned,” Ster-Kinekor’s Rethabile Jackson said.
According to the BBC, Hollywood Studio Warner Bros had to cancel its events in Japan and Mexico, which were scheduled for today, and it had decided to hold off publishing weekend box office figures.
“Out of respect for the victims and their families, Warner will not be reporting box office numbers for The Dark Knight Rises throughout the weekend,” said a spokeswoman.
The move was quickly followed by rival studios like Disney, Fox, Sony, Lionsgate and Universal Studios, who were concerned about offending the public.
Reuters also reports that the Paris premiere of the Batman film was cancelled on Friday following the mass shooting.
