In this comic book image released by DC Comics, the cover of "Superman" No. 1, is shown. More than seven decades after Superman made his debut in "Action Comics," DC says its longest-running comic book title will restart at No.1 in September with a the Man of Steel sporting a full-blue look minus his long-standing red trunks. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s everyone’s favourite superhero - and he’s not wearing any underwear, writes Daniel Bates.
Superman is to be given a new look by his creators, DC Comics, who have decided that the trademark red pants are no longer suitable.
The man of steel will keep his cape, but the world’s most famous Speedos are to be replaced by a “more modern” armoured body suit.
It’s a rebranding exercise announced due to falling comic sales - and to appeal to younger readers, the new adventures will be available digitally the day they go on sale in paper form this September.
At the age of 73, Superman does indeed need something of a dusting off, but the redesign has appalled diehard fans. And what Lois Lane would say is anybody’s guess. - Daily Mail

It's not the pants. Its the story lines. Bring back the old truth, justice, and the "American way."

Booo. Superman was my only excuse to wear my underwear over my pants as a child. Actually I lie, I still use the excuse

Dear DC comic, I know you have people keeping eye on the internet to get a feel for our reaction to this huge change, I only hope enough people feel the same as I and we can stop this before it goes too long. PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE SUPERMAN'S SUIT! I am ok with making a few little teaks here and there over the years but to remove th iconic red shorts is going too far. There are few visual traits that make people think Superman and the "red underwear" is a big one. Please re-think this...Please! I am in favor of restarting the series because to be honest I have not been buying the books becuase i felt lost. Now I plan to start agian with #1 but if you going to move forward with this custume change then I will stop at #1 as well. It is that important!

If he is the 'Man of Steel' as per the original DC comics, why does he suddenly need body armor? I thought that only Kryptonite could harm him, have they been talking B.S. for all these years. If you can no longer trust the comics, then who can you trust............ Batman rules anyhow, superman is a nerd.
