Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s everyone’s favourite superhero - and he’s not wearing any underwear, writes Daniel Bates.

Superman is to be given a new look by his creators, DC Comics, who have decided that the trademark red pants are no longer suitable.

The man of steel will keep his cape, but the world’s most famous Speedos are to be replaced by a “more modern” armoured body suit.

It’s a rebranding exercise announced due to falling comic sales - and to appeal to younger readers, the new adventures will be available digitally the day they go on sale in paper form this September.

At the age of 73, Superman does indeed need something of a dusting off, but the redesign has appalled diehard fans. And what Lois Lane would say is anybody’s guess. - Daily Mail
