The last time we saw Thabiso Kevin Mokhethi, he was on the popular soapie Generations as Samuel Khumalo.

It is a character that he played for six years and when the news broke that he would be leaving the show, many fans were heart- broken.

But that was just the beginning of many things to come for Mokhethi. One of the ventures that the man has agreed to is to host the new Christian show Re: Fresh on ONE Gospel, which he describes as a lifestyle magazine show.

After taking a break from acting when his character Samuel Khumalo from Generations was written out of the show, Mokhethi was happy to bounce on to the small screen again.

“I got a call through my company, Living Righteous Entertainment, and I was told of the show. I expressed interest and here we are,” he said.

He explained that the magazine show basically reviews all new entertainment Christian products out there, from books and spiritual movies to music and artists.

“Each week I will be hosting with guest reviewers who we pick from anywhere.

“They do not have to be professionals who are experts on the given subjects. All they have to possess is the knowledge of the subject matter.

“You can feel the difference when someone is talking about a movie or book that that they went through,” he said.

You may be wondering whether this is where Mokhethi wants to be, since many people know him as the naive soapie character, Sam.

“That was my big break, I must admit, but when the show took a different direction it became clear that I had to focus on other things. First of all, I have to shake off the Sam title and introduce the world to Thabiso,” he said.

To add to his credentials, Mokhethi has been on presenting gigs before on shows like Agape and Thabang Thabong. He also appeared as a guest presenter on Expresso.

“I still welcome work to act because I love it and I want to show people that I can do things other than what they know me for.

“However, presenting is very close to my heart. I have to say it would unfair for me to be made to choose between the two,” he said.

For now, he is enjoying the break from acting as he concentrates on the job that shows the fans what he calls his “true” nature.

“It is time to know the man behind Sam. I am loving the break from memorising lines and scripts and saying things as Thabiso instead. I am grateful for what acting on Generations did for me, and I wasn’t fired, so I am confident about my abilities.

“I may not have an award, but I don’t believe awards mean anything anyway,” he said.

Apart from this presenting gig, Mokhethi is looking at getting into radio presenting as well.

“I am in current talks with my management to have a strategy to approach some of the prominent stations and see what we can come up with,” he said.

• Fresh airs every Friday at 7pm on ONE Gospel, Channel 331.
