Here comes the Payne! Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, that is.
By now, anyone with a TV set has caught a peek of the series. You know, the one about the troubled black family with an uncle who looks like the male version of Madea and comes complete with canned laughter to cue where the viewers should be laughing, especially because they probably aren’t?
House of Payne producers have shot six seasons of the show – you read that right, six. But if you don’ t want to get wrinkles from frowning too much at the scenarios, you may want to just try watching from the third season.
SABC1 premiered the first season three years ago. They didn’t bother to show us the second.
House of Payne has been given a second lease on life by e.tv, which has aired the show’s first season on Tuesdays since January.
But now TopTV has also decided to jump on the Payne bandwagon. The second season of the show played on Fox FX back in February last year, but the third season of the sitcom is coming back to that channel tonight at 8.15pm.
Created and produced by the Tyler Perry who didn’t tell us to turn off the lights and light a candle, House of Payne stars LaVan Davis, Allen Payne, Cassi Davis and, for a brief period, super hottie Lance Gross could also be seen in the series.
CJ (played by Allen Payne) and his children are forced to move into the home of his aunt and uncle, Pops and Ella.
Calvin, a know-it-all college kid who is also Pop’s son, shows a casual attitude towards life and gives his father a monster headache.
But by using a dose of drama and a pinch of humour for each scenario, the many generations living under that roof realise a family that’s a pain together is a family that stays together. We’ll just have to wait and see how much longer this family will stay on our screens.
