The past few years have been good for actor and comedian Anthony Anderson (pictured). After appearing in dud movies like Malibu’s Most Wanted and Barbershop, things seem to be looking up for him. In Hollywood it is tough to get a meaningful role without the right look and Mr Anderson is no Taye Diggs or Morris Chestnut. That could explain why he was the side-kick and not the main man on the show.
But all those who took his spot must be kicking themselves now because Anderson has been getting the right gigs. We all know and love Detective Kevin Bernard from Law & Order. This is especially because Anderson lets go of his silly-boy antics and gives a convincing performance. He may be no Elliot Stabler, but he gets the bad guys.
As if that’s not enough, word has just got out that the man with the gap tooth will be hosting the upcoming BET Soul Train Awards.
Held in Las Vegas on December 1, the awards will get a refreshing feel as the man takes us back to his comedy days. We all love Kevin Hart and he has hosted almost every show there is, but it is time for a new, but established, face. That’s why Anderson is the perfect choice.
As a man with some background in stand-up comedy, there is a high chance that he will think on his feet and bring us to our knees with laughter. Prominent on the Hollywood circuit, Anderson has something on everyone. The nominees will have to worry about how far he is willing to go to get a laugh.
With past hosts including Luther Vandross, Patti LaBelle, Will Smith, and Gladys Knight, Anderson has nothing to worry about. We all love the Fresh Prince, but let’s be real, Will has never been any funnier than Raven Symone on The Cosby Show. The others, well, they had their jokes written for them and all they had to do was make sure the auto-cue was working.
The nominees this year include Kendrick Lamar, Robin Thicke, Chris Brown, Kelly Rowland and Rihanna.
• The Soul Train Awards will air on BET across Africa on Tuesday December 3 at 10pm.
