BODY OF PROOF

(Season 2)

***

Fashion meets crime in another engaging instalment.

GETTING to see Dana Delany as something other than the rival of domestic goddess Bree van de Kamp in Desperate Housewives is refreshing, to say the least.

Now she trades in her baking recipes and cleaning agents for a scalpel, as Dr Megan Hunt, a once brilliant neurosurgeon who, after a car accident that ends her career, becomes a medical examiner.

In season one of Body of Proof, viewers got to see her adjust to her new lifestyle. It also forced the once always-on-the-go doctor to re-evaluate the things that matter to her – such as family, more specifically her teenage daughter.

While still upset about her ex-husband dating her boss, Dr Kate Murphey, Megan never allows it to stand in the way of her job – getting redemption for those that end up on her table.

She is relentless in her pursuit of answers, even if it means alienating people and colleagues along the way.

And she does so with panache and a wardrobe to die for.

Her relationship with a very nerdish Dr Ethan Gross and a bossy and sometimes grumpy Dr Curtis Brumfield can be rather hilarious. Only because she always gets her way. Even old-school detective Bud and his hard-core partner Samantha may not appreciate her tactless approach, but they welcome her help.

The crimes in the second instalment are equally fascinating and bizarre in some cases.

From looking into the murder of a wealthy tycoon’s young new wife to roaming around posh suburbia to find a murderer, Megan doesn’t shy away – especially not where politics permeates its way into their offices.

Another drawcard this season is that she finally starts dating again. He is hot, younger and a landscaper.

So viewers get to see Megan drop her guard and get a bit giddy too. Who knew that composed shell could melt?

Expect another season in which the excitement is relentless. And with the loss of one of their own, emotions run high.

The body doesn’t lie, neither does the rating. This is medical crime drama at its best. – Debashine Thangevelo
