Two Ukhozi FM presenters have been suspended for a month after playing a controversial song about ANCYL president Julius Malema, The Witness newspaper reported on Friday.
The two apparently played the song during the traditional music show Utalagu on Saturday and were suspended on Thursday, the newspaper reported.
SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago told the newspaper the station decided to take presenters Khathide “Tshatha” Ngobe and Ngizwe Mchunu off air after they played the song, which was not on the playlist.
“This is not about the song, but about the two disregarding the rules. The song was not scheduled on the show’s playlist.
“This decision was made after a meeting in which the two were given a chance to explain themselves, where they did admit to their wrongdoing.”
“The station and the SABC take the breaching of these rules seriously,” said Kganyago.
Izingane Zoma, a maskandi group, reportedly wrote a song accusing Malema of being uncontrollable and of criticising the ANC leadership.
The single, called uMalema, was recently sent to radio stations and was expected to hit the shelves of Durban music shops on Thursday.
African National Congress Youth League secretary general Sindiso Magaqa said it would fight the release of the song in court and would sue the group for defamation.
“If they release that stupid song, we will hit them hard,” Magaqa said.
Kganyago said the presenters had focused on the song because of the controversy it had attracted, disregarding the fact that it was not on the playlist.
“You don’t just go to the archives and retrieve a song without approval. This rule applies to all presenters in all stations,” he said.
The same group released the song, Msholozi, after President Jacob Zuma's clan name, before he was elected ANC president in 2007. It called for him to be president and for corruption charges against him to be dropped. - Sapa

South Africans,i'm disappointed at your comments. Some of you don't know what are you talking about. Please lets not shift our focus to dubula ibhunu and all other nonsenses. Let's comment about suspension uKhozi fm presenters. Let me say this...the two no matter how they hate Malema but at least they were suppose to be mindful about their jobs. SABC suppose to be a neutral political organ. Even myself i don't like the behavior of malema. He doesn't mature. As far as i know, the longer you are into politics the more mature you become but with juju,is a different story. If he was cleaver enough he was not suppose to apeal and he was not suppose to block the Izingane zoma's song. These two reasons would make many of us realize how tolerant & humble he is. Malema my boy, if you don't watch out you will be a history in politics boy!!!Politics is bigger than your name. Be calculative out wise you will make people to celebrate like when you celebrated the removal of Thabo Mbeki.

@Xolile - Go ahead then, bury your head in the sand like an ostrich and pretend that I'm lying. Or, how about researching your history thoroughly and understanding it, and becoming a free-thinker. Even Julius confirmed what I am saying in the uncut version of his interview on Carte Blanche! You could start by getting your facts correct with this song, after all your own people are responsible for it, not the 'Europeans'.

@xolile, you're so lost & confused ntate. I am proudly black & South African. @ A lot, this country is all ours & do not let a lost soul to tell you that your forefathers came here on boat therefore blah blah. South Africa belongs to all who live in it, black & white.

dont be telling me about the migrating i am from these lands. the parents and the grandparents of the boer is coming here from the boats from britain and holland. and it is not about the arrogance you are wanting us to be forgetting how we were beaten and treated like the dogs. the song for kill the boer was to stop these treatements. and pik botha is a racism not me i did not want the apathaid. but i do want the true peoples to take back what it is that is belonging to us. why must the white have all the lands and monies? we the ancyl are fighting for the injustices of the apathaid regime and fighting for economic freedom. why must the de beers be having the mines? we must take it back and the lands that is belonging to us and this is why we follow comrade malema because he is a presidant that is not afraid to be speaking a truth

@ Aya. By your own statement then YOU too are stupid and lame. I'm wondering who exactly needs to grow up here. As for the article, what goes around comes around. Not so nice to have a hateful song sung about you huh Malema?. Now you know how we feel. It's called karma, ever heard of it!.

@Xolile, if we are not true South Africans then neither are you if you don't descend from the SAN. You come from North Africa remember. You migrated downwards and colonised the SAN.

@Xolile. My friend you most propably jumped a view fences in your life to? Stop your arrogance and relise that whe are not living in the bush anymore! If not for us "Europe settlers" you won't even have drinking water out of a tap! To sing a song like kill the Boer kan only bring hate, so my question to you is who is more rasist. Pik Botha or YOU?? Us young people are trying to build a new world but going back to the past wich whe are not even part off you and ANCYL are seperating people and keeping the focus of from going forward. so open your eyes and get ur act together!

Good luck with the wrongful dismissal suite and the ccma. Seems its fine to steal, embezzel and defraud the sabc, fine to spend their money on cars and other expenses without pemission but god forbid, dont ever play a song not on the play list. Morons

@Mahikeng: I totally agree with you. Thank you for pointing out the fact that songs like "Shoot the Boer" are incredibly divisive and that, for better or worse, we are all South Africans by birth -- I did not "come here on a boat from Europe" as one commenter stated. I am not, however, one of those idiot whites who say "let's just forget about the past" -- we must never forget and must use those terrible events to build a society that can be an inspiration to the rest of the world. And besides, it does not matter whether your ancestors came to SA by boat or migrated by foot from central Africa -- legitimacy of living in SA is not a "who was here first" argument. It is about the power that one group had has over another, and that is the real issue. Nobody is saying that things don't need to change further, but please don't swallow the lie that "certain people" are anti-capitalist because they are "black" and others are rich imperialists because they are "white". The new divisions are not about "race" but about the power of the mighty rand. We need to uplift communities through education and sustainable job creation, and I am sure that nationalising mines etc will probably not have the desired effect!

@ Aya: and your comment is so much more intellectual then the rest of the comments? Any facts to substantiate your claims? Guess not.

the song for shoot the boer is a song for freedom and it is about the injustices of the apathaid regime under henrick vervoed, pick botha and fw de klerck it was about fighting for freedom against the boer. this is a song which is wanting to be insulting to the ancyl presidant comrade malema. if you see the peoples that is commenting here it is the peoples that is coming here from europe of the boats. these are not the true peoples of the republic why are they wanting to be disrespecting for the anc and the ancyl.

Mr Malema, the seasoned fighter for peace and turd force president should be thanked for allowing us a glimpse into the anc pit. Therein we see the sum total of the SA political expression - banal and stupid drivel.
