DELIVERYMAN: Chris Vance in Transporter: The Series.

You’ve seen the movie now check out Transporter: The Series. At the beginning of the month, Top TV’s FOX Entertainment Channel premiered the 12-episode series that is an adaptation of the movie that first hit the big screen just more than a year ago. The first film in the franchise debuted to rave reviews, thanks in large part to one man – Jason Statham Alas. There is no Statham in the series but there is plenty of action and a lot of hi-tech boy toys like cars and guns.

Now you might think our national Post Office service doesn’t always get your packages to where they need to be or on time. However, you’ll just have to grin and bear that or live vicariously through the people who employ the star of the series, Frank Martin. He is played, in Transporter: The Series, by Chris Vance.

He may be called The Transporter but don’t expect him to carry a sjambok in his boot. What you can expect him to do is transport any package from point A to B – no matter what and with no questions asked. See? Not quite like our post office.

Obviously, this makes for some very adventurous days for Mr Martin. He may not seem to have a moral compass, but Martin does have his own rules that he struggles in just about every episode to not bend or disregard altogether. The rules are simple: never open the package, don’t use any names and never, ever change the deal. Here, Martin formerly served in the British Special Air Service but has since decided to do something that makes him feel more alive – transport people’s packages.

It wouldn’t be an action series if there was no love interest and Martin is paired with Carla Valeri (played by Hungarian ex-model Andrea Osvart), a former CIA agent who also plans all Martin’s missions. But don’t you dare call her a glorified secretary. If you enjoyed the Transporter movies on the big screen, you’ll be glued to your small screen for the next few months.

• Transporter: The Series airs on FOX Entertainment (Top TV Channel 180) every Monday at 8.15pm.
