A new series of the culinary competition between professional cooks and hard-as-iron chefs. First up, Philadelphia’s Walter Staib is a German-trained chef with a passion for food history. He does battle against Iron Chef Flay. Then chef and TV host Chuck Hughes uses his day off to enter into battle at Kitchen Stadium.

l Don’t Tell Mum The Babysitter’s Dead, M-Net Stars, 19.30

Mrs Crandall goes on a long holiday to Australia, leaving a seemingly sweet little old lady as babysitter to her five children. The lady, it turns out, is not so sweet, and when she dies from a heart attack the kids dump her body on the mortuary steps and decide to look after themselves. This, however, is not the end of the children’s problems.

l River Monsters, Discovery Channel, 21.25

Jeremy Wade’s journey begins in America’s backyards. First, he travels through Florida, Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma in search of all-American man-eaters in American Killers. Other US locations visited include Trinity River in Texas and the creeks and lakes of Oklahoma.

l Animal Cops Houston, Animal Planet, 22.50

Follows the work of the Houston SPCA cruelty investigation unit as they rescue, rehabilitate and rehome unwanted, abused or neglected animals. In this series, the SPCA rescues more than 60 dogs from the home of a fraught animal hoarder. While she sleeps on the porch, the dogs have the run of the house and after years of neglect have turned feral and aggressive.
