Born December 1, 1940, Richard Franklin Lennox Thomas Pryor III became one of the most influential comedians in the history of comedy. A talented yet controversial man, most people love him or hate him, but few ignore him. Pryor had a rough childhood which instilled a perspective of the human condition and especially the black underclass in 1950s America. He translated this into honest, hilarious routines and began working as a professional comic. Inspired by Bill Cosby, he went to New York in 1963 and gained recognition as a stand-up. Two years after his death in 2005, Comedy Central produced this documentary which includes excerpts from his many shows and famous comedians talking about the impact he had on their careers.
