BIG changes are afoot for DStv subscribers – but it is good news, so don’t go raising those eyebrows, or picking up the phone to complain.
In a nutshell, the pay-channel platform is giving viewers more options by expanding its channel offerings. Firstly, DStv is migrating its services to a new satellite.
In doing so, there will be an addition of HD channels including two other channels under the umbrella of AfricaMagic.
And all of this happens on October 1.
For a better breakdown, all the general and entertainment channels will occupy channels 101 to 143, while the general entertainment channels with local content will be located on channels 144 to 169.
Documentaries and lifestyle will be found on channels 170 to 190, the free-to-air channels (e.tv and SABC) has been shifted to 191 through to 195 and the SuperSport bouquet (in HD and SD) will be from channel 200 onwards.
Aside from the channel shufflings, there are additional offerings: the movie channels have been bumped up to six, one being a premier channel and the other five being themed action, family, comedy, drama and romance.
Then AfricaMagic Entertainment and AfricaMagic Movies 1 are being introduced to the AfricaMagic channels.
Patricia van Rooyen, M-Net’s CEO, explains: “Our new cluster of eight dedicated M-Net movie channels marks the beginning of an exciting new era of movie magic built around convenience and variety like never before.
“Concurrently, the introduction of the two AfricaMagic channels – AfricaMagic Entertainment and AfricaMagic Movies 1 – will give South African viewers the opportunity to enjoy captivating, modern African productions and films.”
Viewers with HD decoders will be getting M-Net, M-Net Movies channels, the two new AfricaMagic channels as well as the Studio Universal and Universal channels in HD.
Looks like subscribers are going to get their money’s worth come October.
