YOU HAVE probably heard about it, but we are going to say it anyway: MTV has the exclusive rights to air The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The news comes at a great time because Fallon has recently replaced Jay Leno so we get to hopefully grow with him.

Leno was a legend in the game and interviewed just about everyone and their mother. He was witty, knowledgeable and knew how to turn even a boring conversations into something memorable.

While viewers had David Letterman and others as options, Leno held his own and will be missed from the talk show game.

Enter Fallon, a man who is credited as a comedian, musician and actor. Those credentials are enough to make him fill Leno’s shoes, right? Maybe. The Tonight Show business is a delicate one and a host needs to know where to place themself.

Perhaps the first thing any host should realise is that they are not the story, the guest is. So when Michelle Obama comes on, like she already has, Fallon needs to fall back, listen and ask the right questions. In her case, it’s an honour to know Barrack Obama’s wife as she gives a glimpse into the First family’s lives.

However, that said, for obvious security reasons, you can’t expect her to go into detail about certain things. Also, as the first lady, she will have some initiatives, or projects that she might want to talk about, so fine, let her, as long as she doesn’t hog the mic for too long.

Perhaps that’s a little too serious for you, but there will be other guests coming on the show like Jamie Foxx (who is on tonight) with whom Fallon can let loose and be as buffoonish as he needs to.

Foxx can be silly too so they can even jump on the chairs like a happy Tom Cruise did on Oprah.

You don’t want to miss the Kevin Hart interview, though (Thursday). While Foxx may have his off moments, Hart is always on. What he lacks in height, he makes up for in speech as he always has a lot to say. He is undoubtedly one of the most successful entertainers in the game right now.

It will be intriguing to listen to the Vin Diesel interview (September 22) as he will most probably talk about life after Paul Walker and the next The Fast and The Furious film.

The next day we meet the hot Megan Fox and she will obviously talk about her film projects after the Transformers movies. On the same episode it will be intriguing to hear what Nick Cannon has to say about his break-up with Mariah Carey.

With a wide array of stars, it remains to be seen just how well Fallon is going to handle this.

• The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs at 6pm on Mondays to Fridays on MTV, (DStv channel 130).
