DJ and Idols host Gareth Cliff has left 5FM. The outspoken Cliff recorded his final show this morning, bringing to a close a ten year run on the 5FM breakfast show.

Cliff revealed his decision on his website this morning, hinting that he and his breakfast team were looking forward to new opportunities:

“Today, 31st March 2014, I did my last show on 5FM after a decade at the SABC. It’s time for a change. My team and my audience are like my dysfunctional radio family and we want to offer something new and exciting. After two suspensions and several close-shaves, dozens of BCCSA complaints and almost as many management changes at the SABC, it’s time to get unhinged!”

5FM’’s programming manager Tim Zunckel wished the at times controversial disc jockey a fond farewell.

“5FM is enormously appreciative of Gareth’s incredible work ethic, his dedication to his listeners and support of the 5FM brand. The station thanks Gareth for his exceptional ten years of on-air presence as well as being an ambassador for the station, we wish him the very best in future,” he said.

“It has been a pleasure working with Gareth. He has been a huge asset to the 5FM team and we will miss him as an on-air personality and part of the brand. We’re excited about the new line-up and will be announcing as to what listeners can expect in the near future” - Tonight Reporter
