After the cliffhanger ending to the last episode of Haven, |more surprises await Audrey Parker, says actress Emily Rose

LOOSELY based on Stephen King’s The Colorado Kid, Haven explores the mystery behind the “troubles” plaguing the townsfolk and how Audrey Parker is somehow connected to it all.

Over the seasons, viewers gleaned a little more about the former FBI Agent’s mysterious past as well those of Detective Nathan Wuornos and Duke Crocker. But just as one revelation comes to light, another mystery is unleashed.

Part 2 of season five of Haven picks up from its cliffhanger ending when Charlotte combines Mara and Audrey into one body, while Duke’s curse is unleashed with him oblivious to Audrey’s plight.

On inhabiting this character for five seasons, Emily Rose admits: “It’s exciting. From an acting point of view I never dreamt I would get to play so many different characters.

“So that is a really exciting aspect to the show. It is one of those things where you never know where it’s going to go so that’s really neat. But it is a collaborative effort between everybody to keeping it interesting and that sort of back and forth between writers, producers, network studios and us and where we all feel the story should be heading.”

Although Parker has endured more than her fair share of close calls with death, her tenacity keeps her going.

The actress confirms that her character is always keeping her on her toes, given that she is always embarking on some dark and dangerous missions – sometimes in an alternate reality.

“Yah, it’s definitely a challenge. I prefer that. It keeps work interesting for me so I’m not playing the same character.

“A lot of people get to come back and do the season knowing the choices their character has to make – that’s how they have built them. But when I have a new character, I have to keep thinking about it from a fresh perspective and it gets really fascinating when I play multiple characters in the season.”

Shedding light on working with Colin Ferguson (of Eureka fame) as William, a stranger with a secret agenda, she shares: “He (and his wife) were just about to have a baby and I’d just had mine.

“We had done a bunch of tours for Syfy and hung out and joked. The fact that he came on board on the show and we had known each other prior, it was like getting to work with your friend.”

With her son Miles Christian Morgan a big part of her life, Tonight asked her how she has been juggling being an actress, a mother and a wife (she married long-time boyfriend Dairek Morgan in December 2009).

“It’s hard,” she admits.

“I like being on a show rather than not being on show. But, honestly, I couldn’t do it without my husband. He has a job that works with my schedule. He comes up (to Canada) and is with me fulltime so that Miles always has a parent with him at all times. It’s been tricky.”

As for the surprises that await fans this time, Rose hints: “We go back to sort of the beginning of where the troubles came from and we explore the kind of evil surrounding that.

“We get a lot deeper into the storyline with this mythology. We end the season in that way.

“We also dive really heavily into Nathan and Audrey’s relationship and what that means now. And we also deal with the dark seekers. It is a fulfilled season.

“For me, I get to explore a much darker side to the character.”
