I don’t know how you feel about it, but watching horror flicks in a group is way better than being home alone like a young Macaulay Culkin and having less fun. This is what the idea was behind starting The Saturday Night Horror Club.

No one likes to be scared alone, so why not gather at someone’s house on a Saturday night and join your friends for two back-to-back horror movies on Top TV’s Showtime (Channel 111)?

For all of May – which is Africa Month for those you who didn’t know, but that’s a topic for another day – Showtime will take you down memory lane during the day and give you nightmares at night if you’re that kind of person.

This weekend, you can expect to see Ghostwood at 9pm and after that, The Gift.

Hilary Swank, with special appearances by her buck front teeth in just about every scene, stars in The Gift.

It’s about a psychic who is drawn to a mysterious case in the American South. Womp, womp.

With a title like Ghostwood, your mind could wander to all sorts of places, but here’s what that one is about. A psychologist who lives in the Big Apple takes in great scenery and a change of pace when he goes to West of Ireland to investigate the disappearance of his father.

When he gets to the old country he discovers something more sinister.

And why is the community constantly living in fear? I mean, it’s not as though they are forced to watch reruns of Borat every day.

This month’s horror movies will also include The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, which is about as gory as it sounds and not nearly as cute or romantic as the female’s name suggests.

There is also Fear Dot Com, where the murders of four New York City natives go viral.

Okay, that’s not funny.

Likened to The Ring and voted Worst Film by a small-time film critics association, Fear Dot Com is not exactly the stuff cult classics are made of. But it’s meant to scare the Oros out of you, so put yourself to the test.

• The Saturday Night Horror Club is on Showtime (Top TV Channel 111) every Saturday from 9pm.
