South Africa’s first hard- core adult entertainment pay channel, PSat.TV, has not only got a rise out of viewers infuriated over the “moral decay” of society as a result.
TopTV is unimpressed by the “implied association” to the porn satellite channel, which will be launched this month.
“We are not aware that PSat.TV has applied for, or been issued with, a broadcast licence from the country’s broadcast regulator, Icasa (Independent Communications Authority of South Africa).
“In this regard, it would appear that the PSat.TV service is being distributed illegally and is in contravention of the applicable laws whilst also negatively impacting on the operation of TopTV.
“This PSat.TV service is definitely not part of the TopTV channel offering,” says Marius Liebenberg, the senior vice-president: sales and marketing of TopTV.
The confusion arose after media reports revealed that viewers could connect to PSat.TV by operating on TopTV’s satellite dish, but via their decoder. It was simply a case of unlawfully unplugging from the former decoder and reconnecting to the new one.
Liebenberg continued: “The service proposed by PSat.TV would amount to a subscription broadcasting service and to conduct such without a licence would be in contravention of section 7 of the Electronic Communications Act 36 of 2005, as amended.”
“PSat.TV is misusing and misrepresenting the TopTV brand in the market place.
“We have already made urgent submissions to the relevant industry bodies and regulators and will be launching legal proceedings against PSat.TV,” states Liebenberg.
Interestingly, TopTV’s holding company, On-Digital Media (Pty) Ltd, has applied for the approval of three additional adult channels.
In the meantime, TopTV publicist Melinda Connor says the the channel is prepared to take legal action against PSat.TV should they proceed to launch by using its satellite dish receivers.
Attempts to get a response from PSat.TV proved fruitless.
And to think viewers got their knickers in a twist over e.tv’s ‘Naked News’ bulletin…

@ZUKILE So the abundance and availability of of something like porn mandates its approval? Interesting ethic for sure, by that definition innumerable crimes and immoralities are now acceptable. I guess because fraud and corruption are so abundant with abounding opportunities for such, that makes it okay according to your relativistic ethic.

Grow up South Africa. Nobody if forcing you to watch porn TV. It's your choice. After all, you have to buy the decoder. There is also an onoff switch on your remote as well as other channels to watch.
