EARLIER this week, NBC Universal International Networks unveiled the content coming up across their four dominant channels in South Africa: E!, Universal Channel, Studio Universal and Telemundo.
What got the crowd excited was news that prominent South Africa personalities – Bonang Matheba, Terry Pheto, Shashi Naidoo, AKA and Danny K – are among those featured in the first locally produced E! News Special.
In the snippet that was played, Matheba, who was in attendance at the showcase and did a Q&A with the host of the event, Lalla Hirayama, spoke about her journey in entertainment.
Pheto opened up about her sort of rags-to-riches tale. Meanwhile, Naidoo spoke candidly about her divorce in 2012, how it affected her and her beef with a celebrity blogger. And rapper AKA, who is a new dad, talked about how he is keeping it real and doing what he loves.
Another first for E! is the I Am Cait series.
In Sunday’s episode, Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce Jenner) chats with Kim Kardashian and they joke about her ordering room service in her masculine voice.
Fashion Police makes a comeback next month – after it was left in limbo by the departure of Kelly Osbourne. It will be helmed by Melissa Rivers, along with regulars Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski.
Another must-watch is WAGS, a title that is pretty self- explanatory. Set in the glamorous world of sporting legends and their better halves, this series oozes cattiness and drama.
Studio Universal have packaged a few themes for movies buffs. The menu includes Indiana Jones season (on Wednesdays), another of Adam Sandler (Fridays) and a host of horror and family-friendly flicks. Oh, and some kung fu action options too.
Universal Channel has new seasons of NCIS, Rizzoli & Isle, Law & Order: SVU and The Mentalist. Expect new shows like Bosch and Dark Matter. Noah Wyle returns in second two of The Librarians.
