Sex and the City prequel planned

We’ve all heard it before: everyone’s got to start somewhere. Now Sex and the City fans will get to see exactly where that was for Carrie Bradshaw.

The rumour mill can officially stop grinding as the character made famous by Sarah Jessica Parker has been confirmed to return to TV screens - a few years younger, of course.

The prequel to the wildly successful series has been snatched up by US TV network the CW, and is based on SATC author Candace Bushnell’s novel the Carrie Diaries, according to Daily Mail online.

The series spans from Carrie’s teenage years in the 1980s to her early days as a writer in New York.

The only other original character to appear is Samantha Jones – formerly played by Kim Cattrall, 55. Carrie’s journey involves ‘asking her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family, while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan’.

The series is written by Amy Harris, who worked on HBO’s original series.

Those in the running for the title role reportedly include Blake Lively and Miley Cyrus.

Daily Mail online reports that Glee star Dianna Agron has also expressed interest, saying: ‘Of course I’d do it ... who hasn’t seen every episode five million times?’

‘I think it’s wonderful that people want to hear Carrie’s side story, and I understand,’ Sarah Jessica Parker is quoteded as saying. - IOL
