The Coronation Street actor Chris Fountain has been axed from the soap after admitting posting offensive songs on YouTube as a masked rapper called The Phantom.
Fountain, right, who played mechanic Tommy Duckworth, said he was “deeply ashamed of the lyrics” after he was exposed as a mysterious rapper.
His songs, posted to YouTube a year ago, included lyrics like “I will f**k anybody up in the worst way, rape a b***h on her birthday,” and “I'm a motherf***ing demon, I'll stab you in the face with a diseased needle”.
The 25-year-old was suspended from the show after meeting with programme bosses on Monday to discuss his actions. ITV said on Mondaynight that his contract has now been terminated due to his “unacceptable comments”.
Mr Fountain's role is expected to be written out of the Coronation Street script in the days ahead.
In the aftermath of the revelations, Fountain's actions were criticised by women's groups and MPs. Tory MP Priti Patel said his music showed “a lack of respect, regard and understanding of the crime of rape”.
Fountain - who has also starred in Hollyoaks and has been a contestant on Dancing On Ice - spoke of his regret in a statement last week.
He said: “I would like to sincerely apologise for any offence that I have caused. I am deeply ashamed by the lyrics and very much regret my behaviour.
“The videos were made over a year ago when I was experimenting with music and I've not done anything like it since and nor will I.” - The Independent
