The cross-continental chase is back onComment on this story
VERY few TV shows make it past the fifth season and a few brilliant ones reach a 10th season. Then there is The Amazing Race, which is now in an incredible 23rd season.
It is so old it is okay to add it on the list of other long-running shows like Dallas and The Bold and The Beautiful. So what can we expect this time as we join 11 pairs who’ll travel 56 000km around the world.
Their trek will reach across four continents and nine countries. They will travel to, among others, Chile, Norway, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.
The teams include sports stars, a beauty queen, theatre performers and emergency room doctors. We will see cast members like former Houston Texans NFL players Chester Pitts and Ephraim Salaam, the wives of baseball players Chris Getz of the Kansas City Royals and David DeJesus of the Tampa Bay Rays, a pair of LA Kings Ice Crew maintenance workers, former Miss Rhode Island US beauty queen Amy Diaz, exes one-time Minor League Baseball player and sports agent Tim Sweeney with former Lingerie Football player Marie Mazzocchi and the performers from the stage comedy The Queen of Bingo.
If you’ve watched Untold Stories of the ER, then you’ll know the married emergency room doctors Travis and Nicole Jasper (and Travis’ twin brother Travan) who will also be on the show this season.
Phil Keoghan is back again to host the show. He has earned himself several Primetime Emmy awards off this gig since its inception in 2001. So is he going to win it this time? That really doesn’t matter as much as who will give us the most drama.
Safe travels, on your couch.
• The Amazing Race is back on Sony Entertainment Television (DStv channel 127) on Sundays at 7.35pm.
