Things heat up for fab five

When you watch TV you might wonder if some of the shows are real or not. Reality TV has us believing certain things are scripted, thus making us highly suspicious about content that comes our way. But when you see the hunger of the remaining MTV VJ Search contenders, you will actually believe their sincerity.

After a nationwide search and weeks of sifting through the chaff, five strong contenders stand to win the coolest gig in town as the next MTV VJ. The winner will become the new face on MTV and join such successful predecessors as Fikile Moeti and Sizwe Dhlomo. And in a new move, the new presenter will also join e.tv’s Club 808 for an unspecified period of time.

Helping out with the judging are seasoned presenters Mo Flava and Bonang Matheba. Mo is big on radio and has been working his way up the TV ladder and Matheba is quite successful in both spheres. The two are joined by Noreen Alexander, who is a renowned presenter and presentation coach.

The five contenders are Keitumetse Kasonkola, 24, Naledi Redebe, 21, Noluthando Malope, 19, Nomzamo Matha, 22 and Nomuzi Mabena, 19. They are all young and sassy, but there can only be one winner.

To make things interesting in the quest to find the best among the remaining five, on the next episode of the show we will meet each of the contenders as they try to conduct interviews with some of the country’s top musicians who include JR, DJ Cleo, AKA, Toya Delazy and L Tido.

The contestants’ job will entail more than just asking questions on the day of the interviews.

They have to scout for the perfect location in the Lamunu Hotel (Braamfontien) vicinity and conduct their interview there. They are responsible for their own research, the line of questioning and the direction each interview will take.

Essentially, it will be as if they are given the responsibility of some of the crew members, but then again, if they are passionate about what they claim to love, this should be a walk in the park.

Given that most of their subjects are rappers, stand by for some serious arrogance as the poor interviewers try their best to extract honey from the hive with their bare hands.
