Relationship status: A newlywed, married wife Sydal last year. They dated for four years and have been married for just over two months.

How will you be celebrating Valentine’s Day this leap year? This will be my first Valentine’s Day as a married man so I need to set a new bar. A nice romantic dinner would normally be on the cards, but I’m going to try and change things a little. Right now I’m caught between a spa treatment and a picnic. Should she read this she’ll probably opt for both.

What do you love most about your partner? I think one of the most important things is that she makes me a better person. She always brings out the best in me.

What’s the most romantic thing you have ever done for a loved one? For our first Valentine’s Day I got her a life-size teddy bear with a red bow tie and a card in its arms (which she thought was adorable) and it just sat there in the back seat of my car throughout our entire evening.

Can you share your fondest memory of this day? It would have to be the first Valentine’s Day I spent with Sydal. We planned to go for dinner and a movie and ended up doing none of that. We just sat in the car and spoke for hours.

Your ideal meal would be? Definitely something home-cooked. Syd’s cooking is world-class. Even the simplest of meals are delicious. If I had to choose, it would be her Chicken à la King.

Relationship status: Happily married to Privilege for seven years with three children.

How will you be celebrating Valentine’s Day this leap year? My husband and I will be watching the guys from my band play on that day. Maybe end it with a nice dessert afterwards…

What do you love most about your partner? Besides his good nature and kind heart? I love the way he smells – even without cologne, he has the most amazing scent.

What’s the most romantic thing you have ever done for a loved one? I’ve given him three children. To carry a child for nine months, go through the labour pains, breast-feed and raise a child (not forgetting the weight gain and the stretch marks…) is not an easy job. To do it three times for the man you love, wouldn’t you say that’s romantic?

Can you share your fondest memory of this day? We’re such easy going people, we don’t fuss over Valentine’s Day at all. Loving and spoiling each other is something we prefer doing all the time.

Your ideal meal would be? Lamb curry and roti. I always love a home-cooked meal and Priv just loves my cooking. Period.

Every couple has that special song, what is yours? We have so many actually, usually in the reggae and dancehall genre. We also appreciate Anita Baker’s Sweet Love. What a beautiful song!

BINNELAND

Relationship status: Single.

How will you be celebrating Valentine’s Day this leap year? I will be doing a show in Windhoek, Namibia, so I will have to postpone my celebrations.

What do you love most about your partner? I don’t have a partner at present. And I am actually very glad as I think most of the time Valentine’s Day is just a money-making scheme. This doesn’t mean that I’m not a true romantic at heart.

What’s the most romantic thing you have ever done for a loved one? I planned a surprise weekend away a few years ago, which included a spa treatment for two – and the rest remains under wraps.

Can you share your fondest memory of this day? Valentine’s Day at school was always good. It was filled with innocence, laughter, pranks and admirers. The anticipation of whether or not you would do anything on the day was very exciting.

Your ideal meal would be? If a girl made the extra effort to prepare something in a revealing outfit – that would be extra lekker.

Every couple has a special song, what is yours? Some questions should remain unanswered, especially if extremely private… Writing a love song is probably one of the most intimate kind of songs a songwriter can write.

Relationship status: In a long-term relationship but would prefer to remain secretive about the lady who has stolen my heart.

How will you be celebrating Valentine’s Day this leap year? I will be rehearsing for a new Afrikaans musical, Pretville, in Hartbeespoort Dam. So there won’t be a lot of time to spoil the loved one in my life.

What do you love most about your partner? We’ve been together for a while and the list of qualities that I love are just too long to mention.

What’s the most romantic thing you have ever done for a loved one? I brought a puppy for her – and it is still around.

Can you share your fondest memory of this day? When I was in primary school, I used the school intercom to call a girl that I had a crush on to the foyer to give her a present. It was probably one of the silliest things I have done, but one never forgets your first huge public display of romantic feelings… however juvenile it may sound.

Your ideal meal would be? A spread of ice-cream, sushi and lots of fruit that need to be eaten by hand. I find feeding someone very romantic.

Every couple has a special song, what is yours? We don’t have a special song but we have lots of memories that form a special song in my head. My band mates in ADAM and I have not been able to fully capture it in a song yet!

SCANDAL

Relationship status: He is in a four-year-old relationship.

How will you be celebrating Valentine’s Day this leap year? I’m going to set my girlfriend up on a blind date with her sister.

What do you love most about your partner? I love that she still thinks I’m a pharmacist – we’ve been together for almost a lifetime.

What’s the most romantic thing you have ever done for a loved one? I asked my girlfriend about this, she thought about it for so long that she forgot the question…

Can you share your fondest memory of this day? Wearing a billion ribbons from admirers in high school.

Your ideal meal would be? Anything my girlfriend cooks. It’s almost like she belongs in the kitchen.

Every couple has a special song, what is yours? Stevie Wonder’s Rainbow in the Sky. The song encapsulated a moment for us when we hadn’t seen each other in a few months but saw a rainbow on the same day despite being in different places.

Relationship status: In a long-term but long-distance relationship.

How will you be celebrating Valentine’s Day this leap year? Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I can’t spend it together this year. But we are not all that big on Valentine’s Day anyway. Everyday should be a day of love and care for one another. So I will be spending it with friends.

What do you love most about your partner? I love that he is always on my side no matter what. He is truly my best friend.

What’s the most romantic thing you have ever done for a loved one? I surprised my partner at his flat warming in Cape Town. We hadn’t seen each other in a long time and I got a friend to fetch me from the airport and drop me off at his flat.

Can you share your fondest memory of this day? Well, his face on the day that I surprised him. He hugged me for probably an hour straight.

Your ideal meal would be? Anything I can eat on the couch while cuddled next to my partner, accompanied by a bottle of good red wine of course.

Every couple has a special song, what is yours? We have a few special songs but the one that stands out is I Was Made For You by Brandi Carlile. It is pretty much our own story and it’s still being written with new chapters added as we go.
