THE tension heightens as the remaining Top 5 hopefuls in Idols SA wage vocal warfare on each other in Sunday’s episode on M-Net and Mzansi Magic.
For this week’s Spectacular show, they will be singing two songs each from Rolling Stone magazine’s Top 500 list. While they get to select a track that will endear them to viewers, the second song will be the choosing of top South African radio DJ’s.
Durban’s Khaya Mthethwa kicks things off with Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get it On’ followed by Otis Redding’s ‘Try A Little Tenderness’.
After sitting in the elimination zone on Tuesday, Monde Msutwana from Pretoria is hoping to save himself with U2’s ‘One’ and Justin Timberlake’s ‘Cry Me A River’.
Sex symbol in the show, Melissa Allison is hoping to make the Top 3 by currying favour with Bill Withers’ ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ and Tina Turner’s ‘Proud Mary’.
Meanwhile, Simphiwe Gwegwe will be belting out Bonnie Raitt’s ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ and Bob Marley’s ‘No Woman No Cry’; and Tshidi Tenyane, a firm favourite, has taken on John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ and Tina Turner’s ‘River Deep, Mountain High’.
With Zolani Mahola, from the SAMA award-winning Afro-Soul band, ‘Freshlyground’, coaching the hopefuls, it remains to be seen who will be the surprise factor and who will end their big dream.
