Call for Proposals:

The Goethe-Institut is calling for project ideas for exhibitions, workshops, events and performances. The way selection takes place is central in understanding the philosophy of GoetheonMain. The programme is decided by an independent committee of arts professionals, who meet after the yearly public call for proposals. The focus is on artistic quality, while maintaining a sensitivity for the context and local relevance, and favouring an experimental approach. It also implies a certain conceptual frame – that of the city, or a sense of “urbanity”: a focus on the human relation as much as built environment. This year’s application deadline is August 15 for the realisation period January to December next year. For more information and to download the application form, visit www.goethe.de/goetheonmain.

Call for proposals for the Main programme of the South African Theatre which will run from April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016. It offers theatre practitioners the opportunity to present their productions on any of their six stages. They encourage work that is relevant, entertaining, bold and cutting-edge, inspiring, educational, that will stimulate debate and sell tickets. The State Theatre will fund successful productions to the tune of R200 000. Added to the production fund, the theatre will offer the venue for four weeks including move in; access to wardrobe and décor; marketing, advertisement and publicity; 15 percent of gross box office income. Individual artists, producers and arts companies must submit the following information for consideration: full script or a brief synopsis of the production; motivation of how the production is relevant, entertaining, cutting-edge, inspiring etc; artistic treatment; company/individual’s information eg: biographies of the creative team, contact details and any other publicity material of the production; full script if the production exists. Proposals will be assessed by the State Theatre’s artistic team and then by the Artistic Committee of Council for recommendation to the State Theatre Council. Proposals can be submitted to The Artistic Director, Aubrey W Sekhabi, SA State Theatre, 320 Pretorius St, Pretoria, 0002, or Aubrey@ statetheatre.co.za. Proposals must reach the theatre by September 15, successful companies will be informed by October 30. Enquiries and information: e-mail [email protected].
