Lizz Wright

Joy of Jazz (Sunday)

Fans of American singer Lizz Wright have caused chaos at |T-Musicman, the headquarters |of the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival.

Wright is scheduled to perform |in the Market Theatre, which, according to his fans, is too small. They have been phoning the venue and complaining so much that late on Friday T-Musicman’s offices were in a flap, organising an extra concert for Sunday.

The staff were confirming a bigger venue, Computicket had to |be advised, new contracts had to be drawn up, sound engineers had to be booked, security confirmed, flights changed, and so on.

This special concert will take place on the Dinaledi Stage, Mary Fitzgerald Square, at 2pm and will also feature Wycliffe Gordon, the world’s No 1 trombonist, according to Down Beat’s latest Critic’s Poll.

He and his group will play a tribute to Louis Armstrong. Local singer Wanda Baloyi and her band will round out the line-up.

This concert also allows jazz fans who prefer going out during the day rather than at night an opportunity to hear their favourite music.
