GIG OF THE WEEK
Gospel In Me Concert
The Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City (Sunday)
Never would I have imagined the R&B/pop group Jamali on the same line-up as Benjamin Dube. This not because the all-girl group doesn’t sing gospel, it’s just that their sound is worlds apart from Dube’s. If you’re wondering what their blend will sound like then you are in luck as the two acts will be performing on the same stage.
The concert, dubbed The Gospel In Me, is probably a “testimonial” type gig where the not-so-usual suspects will sing gospel as opposed to their usual secular material.
Joining them will be the multi-talented singer and one half of the group Jozi, Ishmael. You must remember his gospel stint back in the day when he gave us the hit Avulekile Amasango. Expect to be taken down memory lane.
Wanda Baloyi is simply one of the most under-rated singers in the country. Her vocal skills will shock you, yet you have probably never heard of her. It is probably as a result of her “good beha-viour” that she rarely makes |the wrong headlines.
See why she is part of this ensemble and judge for yourself.
The show starts at 5pm. Tickets cost R120 to R150 at Computicket. For more info, |e-mail info@nativerhythms.co.za, or call 011 447 5199. |– Munyaradzi Vomo
