SIBAYA IZULU THEATRE: Karou Charou’s family show Hot and Spicy sees the “turbaned one” perform some of his best material from his various shows over the past five years. Want to know why most Indians can’t swim, why Indians choose not to play rugby and why Indian funerals can be funny? Karou will explain. Karou’s interactive style means his audience is a big part of his show and this show is no different. The show includes a karaoke segment, when actor Sivaji Ganasen will make an appearance. CATALINA THEATRE: A multi-faceted three-hander using torytelling, live music and physical theatre, The Working Man depicts the life story of Sipho who dreams of becoming a dancer, but is pressured by this community and by his father to work in the mines because that’s what a “real man” does. A Wordplay Company production written by Sboniso Msimango and directed by Brandon Moulder, it stars Nqobile Mthembu, Sboniso Msimango and Mfundiseni Ndwalane. RHUMBELOW THEATRE, UMBILO: A look at the music of the Carpenters in A Song For You: A Carpenters Revival. Belinda Dolphin and Karen Campbell-Gillies perform in an evening of favourites by the Carpenters duo, whose music career spanned from 1969 through to Karen Carpenter’s death in 1983. KWADUKUZA TOWN HALL: Featuring some of the country’s top Indian and coloured stand-up comedians is Charou and Bruinous which tackles the stereotypes of both cultures. The acts include Neville Pillay, Robby Collins, Masood Boomgaard, Mervyn Pillay and more. The show promises a truly South African experience as our comics offer their insights into living as an Indian or coloured in the rainbow nation. Saturday at 8pm. R100 at Computicket

BARNYARD THEATRE: Comedian Aaron McIlroy brings The Ranga to the Barnyard on Monday. The Ranga is a musical comedy that takes a tongue-in-cheek look at prejudice as seen through the eyes of a man tormented with pigmentation issues.The word “ranga” is derived from “orangutang” and is a term used to describe people with varying shades of red hair. In The Ranga, McIlroy takes the scalpel to the pre-conceived ideas around “ranga-ism” – highlighting how this recessive gene is the primary cause of most the world’s woes. Show starts at 8pm. NEW YORK COMEDY CLUB: On tour this month from Cape Town are two hilarious acts, sharing the stage with Durban favourites. PLAYHOUSE COMPANY: August is Women’s Month and there’s no better way than feasting on the drama, dance, dialogue, music and entertainment on offer at the annual Playhouse Company’s SA Women’s Festival (SAWAF). This year’s festival takes on added significance as 2015 has been named the African Union’s year on women empowerment and The Playhouse is proud to be playing its role in the campaign. SIBAYA IZULU THEATRE: Pagla Comedy Nite is stand-up comedy show featuring Mervyn Pillay, Rahul Brijnath, Arnott Payne, Anesh Dusrath and Vee Ganie.
