SEABROOKES THEATRE: Dracula – The Vampire Strikes Back is a fun-filled production suitable for the family. Written by Thomas Ribbits and Tim Saward, it tells the story of Sapphi the vampire slayer and her attempts to rid London, and eventually the world, of the evil vampire. Aided by the incompetent and timid Jonathan Harker, her mother, Coco, the pantomime dame, and her friend Lucy Lastic, she must find victory and love somewhere between England and Transylvania. With a cast of 18 pupils (with girls from Our Lady of Fatima), the show runs from tomorrow until Friday, at 7pm. Tickets: R40 at 031 277 1500 during school hours.
THE RHUMBELOW THEATRE: The Minnie and Johnson Show starring Emile Minnie and Godfrey Johnson is being staged at 8pm on Friday and Saturday. Bring picnic baskets. Tickets: R100 at Computicket, or call Roland at 031 205 7602, or e-mail [email protected]
UKZN DRAMA DEPARTMENT: Two travelling shows return to Durban this week in the form of a double bill of No Added Charges and Transition. The first is a funny and witty production that delves into the world of bank heists gone horribly wrong. The young, gifted cast is made up of students from UKZN. Set in the 1990s, in a time of hope and rebirth in SA, it looks at how those in remote areas are struggling to survive. The second feature explores what it is to be young and frustrated. It is set in a rehab centre, where two different people from entirely different worlds meet and find solace. Through these meetings, a black comedy arises through the clashing of ideals, as the cocaine addict and the Christian boy begin to heal. Shows run from Tuesday to Sunday, with two shows a night. Call 031 260 3133 to make bookings. Tickets: R40 for the double bill and R30 for one show only. Students and pensioners get a discount of R20.
THE HERITAGE THEATRE: Burlesque! ends on August 26.
