THE PLAYHOUSE: Cape Town City Ballet – who brought us Cinderella and Giselle – have a short run this week of Coppelia. The show is based on the story by ETA Hoffmann, and performed to the music of Leo Delibes. It tells the story of an eccentric inventor, Dr Coppélius, who makes life-size dolls. When a villager, Franz, falls for the doll Coppelia, the doctor sees an opportunity to trap Franz and sacrifice his life in an attempt to bring his creation to life using a magic spell.
