GIG OF THE WEEK
Heels over Head
The Playhouse Front of the House
Jazz lovers will be glad to know Durban’s all-woman jazz band, Heels over Head, will perform at the Playhouse tonight.
The group are Thulile Zama on vocals, Nomkhosi Mazibuko on backing vocals, Lindi Ngonelo on piano, Danielle Booysen on second keyboard, Sindisiwe Nene on bass and Zoe Masuku on drums.
Founded in 2008, the band were nominated for an SA Music Award in the Contemporary Jazz category just five months after releasing their debut album. They have performed at Suncoast Casino, Zack’s, Wilson’s Wharf, the ICC, the BAT Centre and many more. Other highlights include winning the Yamaha competition and playing on the final night of the World Cup.
According to the group, they are working on their new album: “This includes several exciting new compositions and arrangements. Working with different artists and featuring some of Durban’s talent.
“We’ve laid down two tracks so far and should be heading back to studio in the next few weeks.”
The talented women have much more in store for their fans: “We plan to maintain our standard in providing good music that appeals to young and old, and to the rainbow nation. We also plan to have a lot more live performances which are always phenomenal (we love showing love andgetting love from our fans). They can expect the album to be full of fresh homegrown music, Heels Over Heads way.”
