PLAYHOUSE COMPANY: Loyiso Gola’s Loyiso Gola Live is in Durban for one night only. The show is authentically South African, delivered in an intelligently frank manner. Loyiso takes his audience on a romp full of funny and hard-hitting punchlines as he shares his social commentary and political views in his characteristic satirical style. R160 at Computicket.

ELIZABETH SNEDDON THEATRE: The Centre for Creative Arts and the College of Humanities of the University of KwaZulu-Natal present the 17th annual Jomba! Contemporary Dance Experience from tomorrow until September 6. For 12 days, the centre offers some of the world’s best dance theatre work that will provoke, entertain, delight and challenge. SUNCOAST: The Dingalings return on September 4 and 5 with the comedy, Chops Choons and Span of Dops 2, the sequel to Chops Choons 1. City Hill Auditorium, HILLCREST: A day-long feast of family entertainment happens on Saturday at the Festival in the Hills. The programme includes Big Broadway, Small Stars. This collaboration brings Aaron McIlroy and Lisa Bobbert together with a massed choir of primary school children, conducted by Bernard Kruger of Kearsney College. Then, there’s comedian Carvin H Goldstone in Coloured President. This show will enter the political comedy arena with views on South African and world politics and what South Africa would be like if it had a coloured president. R50. NEWCASTLE TOWN HALL: Comedy legend Marc Lottering teams up with Masood Boomgaard in Making Laugh, a night of stand-up comedy not to be missed on Saturday. Lottering is well known for his hit stage shows Grootbek, From the Cape Flats with Love and This is Captain Lottering Speaking. Expect hilarious tales from his travels abroad, his signature Cape Flats humour and his take on current affairs. Masood is known for his exploits on the South African comedy circuit on which he has performed with some of the biggest names. He will delve into issues like cellphone dependence, demonic children, sports teams that disappoint, Malema and lot more. He will also explore the humorous side of love and attempt to answer the mystical question of what women want. 8pm. R120 at Computicket

SEABROOKE’S THEATRE: Oom Schalk Lourens, aka actor David Muller,comes KwaZulu-Natal for a short season of Oom Schalk, From the Heart 2. Opens September 1. The festival is set to further enhance the pupils’ performing skills while empowering them to fully understand English literature. The Shakespeare Schools Festival South Africa was initiated and co-ordinated by Educape, with the aim of providing an equal opportunity where there are no boundaries for participation and is a fantastic opportunity for youth seeking opportunities to explore their potential in a fun and developmental way.
