RHUMBELOW THEATRE: Platform Jazz present their new offering, Show Time, this week.

AMSTERDAM BAR: Amsterdam Comedy Club features Dusty Rich tomorrow at 8.30pm at 143 Helen Joseph Rd, Glenwood. After leaving his home town for Joburg in July, Dusty has performed 27 shows as the opening act for Trevor Noah’s one-man show, That’s Racist! and is a regular on the popular Comedy at Parker’s stage. Durban’s Neil Green is the host with Arno Els as support and Mo Magic, a magician who dabbles in comedy, takes the opening slot. R30. Booking advised: 031 811 5449.

 

HERITAGE THEATRE: Presents Yesterday Once More, a musical look at the works of brother and sister supergroup Richard and Karen Carpenter, known as The Carpenters. Among the songs featured are Close To You, Only Yesterday, Rainy Days and We’ve Only Just Begun. The show features Marion Loudon and Melanie Roberts backed by Chloe Clark on piano and keyboards, Nux Schwartz on guitar, Glen Turrell on bass and Andy Turrell on drums and pedal steel. Ends Sunday. RHUMBELOW THEATRE, DBN: Presents the eight-piece band, Platform Jazz, in their new production, Show Time. The line-up features Cathy “Hotlips” Peacock on trumpet, Dunc “The Hunc” Wooldridge on trombone, Ian “Lightning Fingers” Holloway on clarinet, Melvin Peters on piano and more. BARNYARD THEATRE, Gateway: It’s a case of “long live The King” with Elvis Forever which ends on Sunday. This show captures Elvis’s hits from the 1950s through to the 1970s. Expect to hear Hound Dog, Heartbreak Hotel, Don’t Be Cruel, Jailhouse Rock, Love Me Tender, It’s Now or Never, Return To Sender, Suspicious Minds, Can’t Help Falling In Love, Always On My Mind and the goosebump-inducing American Trilogy. Backing up Shaky Russell on vocals are Granville Michaels and Luasanne Wijnberg, with the band comprising Regardt de Bruin on guitar, Calli Thomson on keys, Fresh Monanyane on bass guitar, Ruan Oosthuyzen on drums, Ola Aina on sax and Stephanie Pais on trumpet. CATALINA THEATRE: Just Yours is a World War II romance set in Durban, 1943, that stages from February 6 to 22. Written and directed by Sandy Bigara (The Game, Animal Tails I & II, Bewitched, Songs of Love, Rapunzel), it is filled with love songs from the 1940s such as Bei Mir Bist du Schön, Auf Wiedersehn, If I Loved You, Just Yours and more. RHUMBELOW THEATRE, PMB: Presents Rocking the Greatest Hits – Krystle T & the Band is a show filled with music from the 1960s to the present with one singer, one stage and one band. Expect hits from Joe Dolan, Tina Turner, Bon Jovi, Queen, Elvis, Pink, The Corrs, The Cranberries, Adele, Tom Jones, Don McLean and more.
