WESTVILLE BOYS’ HIGH: The school presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Directed by Luke Holder and choreographed by Fiona Barnes, the show combines many musical styles; from country to calypso to rock ‘n’ roll, in a series of memorable musical numbers. RHUMBELOW THEATRE, Pmb: Dave Monks presents a double show on Sunday. Part one – Touch of Irish – starts with rousing Irish party favourites, dance and great sing-along music. Born and raised in Dublin, Dave delivers a touch of the blarney in his collection of Irish songs and humour and the Irish feel is accentuated by his vocals, electric fiddle, banjo, harmonica, tin whistle and guitar. CATALINA THEATRE: Catalina Unlimited present Our Man Clint, a comedy musical revue written and directed by Verne Rowin Munsamy, with musical direction by, and starring, Clinton Philander. RHUMBELOW THEATRE: This year is the 45th anniversary of the “three days of peace and music celebration” – Woodstock – when 32 acts performed to 400 000 people. Celebrate the music of Woodstock with The Reals – Barry Thomson (guitar/vocals), Dawn Selby (keyboards/vocals), Mali Sewell (drums/vocals), Jason Andrew (bass guitar/vocals). VARIOUS SCHOOLS: David Muller’s Imagining Einstein is set to tour KZN schools until August 8. The Merry Scholar, alias Muller, returns with a play about Albert Einstein covering his life, his science and the world during his time. The play is witty and informative. The duration of the play, which is geared for pupils in grades 10 to 12, is 60 minutes with audience participation. Performance: R4 000. THE PLAYHOUSE: Russian composer Tchaikovsky created the music for three of the world’s most loved and enduring ballets – Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker. His legacy will live on when Stars of the Ballet Russia tour South Africa. The show is choreographed by Yury Vetrov, former director of the Bolshoi Ballet. Stars of the Ballet Russia runs August 5 and 6. The programme includes Acts 2 and 4 from Swan Lake, the pas de deux from Sleeping Beauty and the grand pas from Paquita. CATALINA THEATRE: From August 4 to 17 catch For Better or Worse. The drama written by Koobeshen Naidoo (Dingalings fame) tells the story of three generations of women thrust together in a weekend with their husbands away fishing. ELIZABETH SNEDDON THEATRE: From the company that brought Durban the dark and smouldering grown-up musical, Cabaret, comes Sweeney Todd. This musical thriller by American theatrical genius, Stephen Sondheim, features one of the greatest music theatre scores written. It tells the outlandish tale of urban legend, Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, who famously murdered his clients in his barber’s chair, whereafter his whacky neighbour, and partner in crime, Mrs Lovett, turned them into meat pies. This KickstArt production stars Jason Ralph in the title role, and local favourite Charon Williams-Ros as Mrs Lovett. Others in the cast include Lyle Buxton, Sanli Jooste, Bryan Hiles, Richard Salmon, Danilo Antonelli, Liesl Coppin and Darren King. Directed by Steven Stead, with set designs by Greg King.
