STABLE THEATRE: Inkonyane Engegama (The Calf with no Name) is a heart-warming new children’s play that runs from tomorrow to Saturday daily at 10am. Created by writer Clinton Marius, the production is translated into Zulu and directed by Mpume Mthombeni. Cottonfields Restaurant: Tomorrow, four of Durban’s funniest improv comedians perform their comedy based on the popular TV show Whose Line is it Anyway?. Dusty Rich, Glen Bo, Jem Atkins and Lil’ Paul make every- thing up on stage, based on audience suggestions, in a side-splitting comedy for the whole family. COURTYARD THEATRE: Living Dead Girl runs from Saturday to March 21. The production is an experimental project written as a critical response to violence against women and the patriarchal structures that promote gender distinctions. Written as a collection of monologues, poetry and short satirical sketches, Living Dead Girl explores the use of new media technologies, activism and documentary theatre as mechanisms to exploit, subvert and critique patriarchal systems of governance. At the end of each performance, the cast will engage in talk-back sessions with the audience to explore how they perceived the experiences on stage, the reality of violence against women, and the audience as participants in transformation. Umlazi Oasis Fellowship Centre: This Easter, Catalina UnLtd in Durban, funded by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, presents a new gospel opera-musical – The African Passion. This world premiere brings the Passion of Christ to life in a musical featuring gospel-inspired songs. The story is based on the gospel according to St John and will be a choral masterwork featuring almost 100 voices. The libretto was written by Themi Venturas and the music composed by Phelelani Mnomiya, Anthony Govender and the Young Mbazo (grandchildren of Ladysmith Black Mambazo members) and is the perfect way to celebrate Easter. THE PLAYHOUSE: Think Theatre’s Othello stages in association with The Playhouse, at the Playhouse’s Drama Theatre until March 27. School performances are at 9am and noon daily, Mondays to Fridays. Directed by Clare Mortimer, the play sees Loyiso MacDonald reprise the title role, Robyn McHarry again appears as Desdemona, Clinton Small stars as Iago and Mortimer returns as Iago’s wife, Emilia. BARNYARD THEATRE: The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway is again taking off with its latest show, Rocking in a Free World until April 14.
