BARNYARD THEATRE: Casper De Vries is joined by Hannes Muller, André Schwartz and Karen Wessels in CasperNades. Sunday. A bilingual 90-minute improv comedy show. Being an improvised show, every performance is different. Razor-sharp satire is the trademark of De Vries. Muller is best known for his Naledi Award- nominated performance in Groet Die Grotman. Schwartz has an established career in the entertainment industry, mostly in music, musical theatre and TV presenting. Wessels has become a household name for her roles in Egoli, Begeertes and Song Vir Katryn. She also has a long history with De Vries, having been Orpa in Haak & Steek. THE HEXAGON THEATRE (PMB): Playwright Clinton Marius’s hit comedy B!*ch Stole My Doek, starring Shona Johnson, is set for a run from Thursday to Saturday. A raucous satire with a twist, the play pokes fun at a war of words between two women over a missing item of laundry. Colourful language and irrational hysteria offer an insider’s view of life in Durban’s southern suburb of Wentworth, as the comical battle between neighbours heats up and boils over, with unexpected results. Performances are at 8pm, with an additional 4.30pm matinee on Saturday to accommodate load shedding. R100, R80 students and pensioners at Computicket.

 

SUNCOAST CASINO: Durban’s popular comedians start their year with a new stand-up comedy show, the Dingalings’s 50 Shades of Funny, at the Suncoast Supernova Cine Centre. In the spirit of the 50 Shades frenzy, the guys do a Dingalings’ take on the tide sweeping the world. Featuring Henry Ramkissoon, Senzo Mthethwa, Koobeshen Naidoo, Neil Green and Arnotte Payne, the guys promise the usual off-the-wall comedy. Friday at 8.30pm and Saturday at 5.30pm and 8.30pm. COURTYARD THEATRE: The Durban University of Technology stages the iconic Lionel Bart evergreen, Oliver!, based on the Charles Dickens classical novel, which comes to the DUT Courtyard Theatre from March 22 to 28 March. Oliver! boasts a host of much-loved songs: Food Glorious Food; Oliver!; Consider Yourself; You’ve got to Pick a Pocket or Two; As Long as He Needs Me; I’d Do Anything and Omm-Pah-Pah. THE PLAYHOUSE: Audiences will be given a window into the world of Russian culture when Crown of the Russian Ballet’s 175th Tchaikovsky Anniversary Celebrations grace stages on April 28 and 29 at 7.30pm. The programme opens with the world premiere, the company’s artistic director Anatoly Emelianov’s new production of one of Tchaikovsky’s masterpieces, the one-act ballet, Manfred. The second half features two favourites – a suite from The Sleeping Beauty featuring the original Marius Petipa choreography and the one-act Romeo and Juliet choreographed by Emelianov.
