SUNCOAST CASINO: The Dingalings begin their KZN tour of Yugan Naidoo’s ¼ Beans Bru! The two-hour show takes a candid look at Grey Street in the 1970s and early 1980s and depicts the colourful life of people who popped into the Indian eatery, Patels, for a quick bite. Seen through the eyes of Mr Patel (Bassy Bhola) and Lightie (Vivian Moodley), the audience is taken down memory lane to old-style Indian weddings, the gangs of the day, the music and the politics that connected all the stakeholders. HOWARD COLLEGE THEATRE (UKZN): KZN-based concert pianist Christopher Duigan, who is set for a series of recitals in London next month, will give a preview of his London programmes on Friday at 7.30pm. THE SQUARE SPACE THEATRE (UKZN): ScruffySessions Productions in collaboration with Xtraordinaire Dance Company presents Consenting Silence: Shanti Manju. Written by Verne Munsamy and choreographed by Sashin Kandhai, this Bollywood-style epic journeys through the young heroine Damini’s struggles. Supported by her loving grandmother, the love story of Damini and Manish is painted with shades of youthful love, lust, rivalry, outdated customs and consenting silence. Ben, a hearing scientist, faces an ethical dilemma when Niten, who is deaf, is sent to assist him in finishing his project. After many misunderstandings between them, Ben decides to build a robot to assist with the communication breakdown. One night while Ben is working on the robot, he is struck by lightning and loses his hearing. THE BARNYARD THEATRE: Thank You For The Music is a tribute to Abba, the Bee Gees and Queen.Ends July 14. It takes you on a trip back to when glitz, glam and some of the greatest pop tunes were written – the 1970s and the ’80s. KZNSA GALLERY: South Africa’s most famous white woman, Evita Bezuidenhout, will be in Durban for one night only at the KZNSA Gallery as guest for their gala benefit evening on Wednesday, June 5. The razor-sharp self-proclaimed tannie of the nation, famed hostess, socialite, avid twitterer, political adviser and former ambassadress of the homeland of Bapetikosweti takes time out from cooking koeksusters to kuier in Durban. To honour Mrs Bezuidenhout, the KZNSA Arts Café is creating a menu straight out of Evita se Kossie Sikelela cook book. After a fabulous meal, Mrs Bezuidenhout will be holding court in the main gallery for the gala fund-raiser. The gallery has created a Boere-Baroque vintage-inspired photo-booth where, for a donation to the gallery of R200, 10 audience members can be individually photographed with Mrs Bezuidenhout. RHUMBELOW THEATRE: Presents a double bill, Victoria Kay – The Township Diva starring Pinkie Mtshali and Big Gals Don’t Cry with Mtshali and Thulile Zama. Runs June 7 to 9. Big Gals features Zama – founder and vocalist of the all-female jazz ensemble Heels Over Head – and Mtshali, lead vocalist for the Durban Divas cabaret trio.
