iZULU THEATRE (SIBAYA CASINO): The Coloured Comedy Festival takes place on Friday and Saturday. The two-night festival seeks not only to showcase the best of current and emerging comic talent, but also explore the unique South African cultural narrative. Among the top acts featured are Jason Goliath, Richelieu B, Nicholas Goliah, Donovan Goliath, Carvin Goldstone and Alfred Adriaan. Issues to be addressed on stage will include Jacob Zuma’s inability to avoid controversy and Bafana Bafana’s inability to win. Comics will also go “grassroots” and narrate witty coloured tales from exotic lands like Wentworth, Sydenham and Eldorado Park. R120 at Computicket and the box office.

CATALINA THEATRE: From Monday to Saturday, the theatre will host an array of productions, artists and workshops aimed at children when they launch their Durban Children’s Theatre Festival. On the programme are The Fantastical Flea Circus Returns, written and directed by Clinton Marius, starring Shona Johnson and Khanyisani Kheswa; Zap and Buttons! written by Sandy Bigara; uMthakati written and directed by Neena Pitamber, and performed by a disabled cast; Ntswaki’s Adventure and Mpumy Ndlovu’s African folklores told in English. THE BARNYARD THEATRE: 99 Hits runs until Sunday. Expect 99 hit songs in one show. Watch how Elvis takes on Cliff Richard, Cher takes on Mick Jagger and how Katy Perry takes on Miley Cyrus. The cast consists of five vocalists – Andrew Webster, Marvin Nethononda, Lee Paver, Caelee Vercuiel and Jean Juliet – while the band includes Joe du Toit (guitar), Calli Thomson (keyboard), Kelly Joubert (bass guitar) and Nelis Du Plessis (drums); and they will be joined by dancers Angelita Horsch and Jade Farhangi. SEABROOKE’S THEATRE: Lisa Bobbert and Darren King reprise their award-winning roles in Laughing Wild, Christopher Durang’s acclaimed comedy, which returns to the KZN stage after 10 years. THE BARNYARD THEATRE: Kevin Perkins, the artist formerly known as Michael Naicker, hits The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway’s stage with his comedy show, The K Word, on October 17. Of course, the “K” is for Kevin. A show about life as a currently disadvantaged genius with a face for radio, Perkins will share his views on politics, fake boobs and everything in-between.
