GIG OF THE WEEK

Majozi: Farewell Durban

Live – The Venue (tomorrow)

BIDDING farewell to his home town, Durban, is South African musician, Majozi. So for fans of the guitar-playing singer, catch him at Live – the Venue tomorrow.

According to Majozi’s website, he taught himself how to play the guitar at the age of 13, which led to him studying a foundation course in jazz and popular music at the UKZN. He describes his music as indie folk with subtle influences of electro and attributes his faith as one of his inspirations.

In 2013, he released his first EP, Marvelous Light, which was recorded and produced by Warren Meyer of Doppler Studios. The album made it to No 9 on the South African iTunes chart and No 1 in the singer/songwriter category.

His website further states that in the past year Majozi has opened for Matthew Mole, Gangs of Ballet, Zebra and Giraffe and inter-national artist, Yoav. His recent achievements include opening for Mango Groove at the Durban Botanical Gardens, playing at Oppi Koppi and White Mountain Music festivals and on the main stage at the Mr Price Pro Concert. Support acts for the gig are The Kickstands and Yorke. – Tonight Reporter
