AN exploration of the link between clowning and storytelling has resulted in Fishy Flippers – a Creative Beans and Clowns Without Borders South Africa collaboration which stages at the Musho Festival this year.

Created and performed by Annabel Morgan and Nadia Maria Woodward (pictured), the show’s assistant director is Jamie McLaren Lachman.

It’s an interactive piece about a boy who finds a lost penguin on his doorstep.

Woodward said they were inspired by the children’s book Lost, which moved them to turn it into a play – with a South African twist.

“The play deals with issues like loneliness and finding friendship, with friendship being the core of the story. We’ve just finished touring it in communities in Swaziland. This is the first time we’ll be performing it for a theatre-going audience.”

Woodward said the play was well received during its tour and they were interested to see the audience’s reaction here.

• Fishy Flippers stages on January 19 at 10am.
