THE MUIZENBERG Dramatics Society are looking for actors interested in taking part in a run of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest.

A trivial comedy for serious people in which the protagonists maintain fictitious persona in order to escape burdensome social obligations, it was first performed in 1895. It’s high farce and witty dialogue has kept it on the boards to become one of Wilde’s most endearing plays.

Part satire, part comedy of manners, part intellectual farce, the play does come together magnificently thanks to a very tightly edited script.

Contrary to Wilde’s earlier work, this one’s light plot does not tackle serious social and political issues, though it does treat as a major theme the satirising of Victorian ways.

The cast required are: five males aged 25 to 50 and four females aged 18 to 50.

Actors will need to be available for rehearsals and the production run. The production will run from November 6 to 15 at The Masque Theatre in Muizenberg. The audition will take place at 1.20pm on Sunday, July 6, with callbacks on Thurs- day, July 10 at 7pm. Auditions will take place at Rendezvous (the old Zandvlei Bowling Club), 47 Promenade Road in Muizenberg from Monday to Thursdays, 7pm to 10pm, and from 2pm to 5pm on Saturdays.
