The Obs Family Festival is under way until Saturday, again offering entertain-ment for children.

Presented by the Theatre Arts Admin Collective and Assitej, this show-case of new work presents cutting-edge independent theatre that is age appropriate.

But adults will also find something to entertain.

For the first time, the festival is also partnering with the Baxter Theatre and the Zabalaza Festival, featuring plays from Cape Town, Joburg, The UK and Denmark.

This year the festival features three productions for children under the age of 6. Pushmi Puyu, Patchwork and Nomvula.

For the tweens, there is Into the Fairytale; Castle of Life; River of Life and Friendship.

Half Bread Technique/Post Capitalism for Beginniers confronts the audience with provocative ideas around money and economics.

Also for the tweens are Einstein for Begingers and Lionboy at the Baxter Theatre.

Teenagers will want to watch Making Mandela; Secret Flames and/or Lingua Franca who take the audience on a roller-coaster ride of slam poetry.

Indalo, by the Keiskamma Music Academy is a fantastic family experience, an indigenous art and music interpretation of Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals which explores the closeness of the Xhosa with animals.

The festival also features workshops for children and adults, from Teater Patrasket talking about the technical wizardry required to put on theatre in schools to various local theatre practitioners talking about how travelling to international festivals for young people and watching new works has shifted their thinking and practice. – Staff Reporter
